7 Series
The BMW 7 Series is the full-size luxury sedan for BMW.
Since 1977 the first 7 series (code name E23) was introduces as successor to the BMW E3 sedan.
The second generation (code name E32) was produced from 1986 until 1994 and third generation (code name E38) from 1994 until 2001.
The fourth generation was introduced as code name E65 for the standard-wheelbase version in 2002. An long-wheelbase version was coded as E66. E67 code name was used for the high-security (armored) version and E68 of the Hydrogen 7.
The fourth generation was known for its less traditional design then its predecessors.
In 2008 the fifth generation 7 series came out as code name F01 and as F02 for the long-wheelbase model. Code name F03 was used for the high-security (armored) version and F04 for the hybrid 7 series.
Current sixth generation 7 series is the code name G11 for the regular short-wheelbase model and G12 for the extended wheelbase model.
The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available as a sedan or extended-length limousine.
The first generation 7 Series was powered by straight 6 petrol engines, and following generations have been powered by straight 6, V8 and V12 engines.
Since 1995, also diesel engines have been included in the 7 Series range.
